The spirit of generosity runs deep at Kendal at Oberlin, where residents and staff recently came together to support the United Way of Greater Lorain County through a successful workplace giving campaign and a creatively themed bake sale. This collective effort reflects Kendal’s strong commitment to community, compassion, and meeting the needs of neighbors across Greater Lorain County.

As part of the campaign, Kendal hosted a three-day bake sale in its community space. Each day featured a different theme that drew enthusiastic participation: rich and indulgent chocolate creations, savory baked goods, and a sweet finale of cookies and cupcakes. The bake sale quickly became a gathering point, fostering connection while supporting a vital cause.

The success of the event would not have been possible without the dedication and leadership of Human Resources and Operational Services Director Toni Merleno and her assistant, Larry Thompson. Their planning, organization, and encouragement were invaluable, ensuring the bake sale ran smoothly and achieved remarkable results. Thanks to their efforts and the generosity of the Kendal community, the bake sale raised more than $2,500. These funds will be added to individual employee contributions, significantly strengthening Kendal’s overall workplace campaign donation to United Way.

Merleno shared that the team at Kendal at Oberlin was particularly moved by United Way’s collaborative UCAN (United Community Assistance Network). UCAN’s mission—to provide residents of Greater Lorain County with year-round access to emergency financial assistance for rent, utilities, and other basic needs at a single, neighborhood-based location—resonated deeply with Kendal’s values of honoring and respecting every person, acting with integrity and generosity, and building meaningful partnerships.

Through thoughtful giving and shared purpose, Kendal at Oberlin demonstrated how a caring community can make a lasting difference.
