Honoring Dr. King Through Service Project
On Martin Luther King Jr. Day, our community came together not just to remember Dr. King’s legacy - but to live it.
Volunteers of all ages, from young children carefully placing items into bags to adults working side by side in assembly lines, gathered with a shared purpose: to serve their neighbors. Together, they assembled hygiene kits that will support some of the most vulnerable individuals across Greater Lorain County.
Each kit included essential personal care items like soap, shampoo, toothbrushes, and toothpaste—simple necessities that are often out of reach for those experiencing homelessness, financial hardship, or transitional life circumstances. But beyond the items themselves, each kit represented something more powerful: dignity, compassion, and community care.
Dr. King once said, “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, ‘What are you doing for others?’” On this Day of Service, our volunteers answered that question with action.
What made the day especially meaningful was the diversity of those who showed up. Families volunteered together, giving children the opportunity to learn firsthand about kindness and service. Individuals came on their own, quickly forming connections with others around them. Strangers became teammates, united by a shared commitment to making a difference.
These hygiene kits will soon be distributed through local shelters, outreach programs, and community partners, ensuring that individuals facing difficult circumstances have access to essential care items many of us take for granted.
Martin Luther King Jr. Day reminds us that service is not just something we do—it’s how we build stronger, more compassionate communities. Because of our volunteers, Dr. King’s vision of neighbors supporting neighbors continues to live on right here in Greater Lorain County.
Together, we are turning compassion into action.
