UNITED WAY TO CELEBRATE 10TH ANNIVERSARY OF A NIGHT AT THE BEE
.
Lorain, Ohio – United Way of Greater Lorain County invites the community to the 10th anniversary of its signature fundraiser, A Night at the Bee. Presented by American Legion Post 30, the annual event returns Friday, May 8 at the Emerald Event Center in Avon (33040 Just Imagine Drive, Avon, OH 44011).
A Night at The Bee is a fun game-night style competition for adults that includes four categories of Spelling, History, STEM and Art. Teams compete in each category for the $1,000 grand prize and the champion’s traveling trophy. All proceeds from the event support United Way’s local education initiatives focused on kindergarten readiness and middle school success in the Clearview, Elyria, Firelands, Lorain, Midview and Oberlin school districts.
Community members can register a team of four to compete in the competition for $200 or purchase spectator tickets for $55 per person at uwloraincounty.org/thebee. Team registration and spectator tickets include buffet dinner and one drink ticket.
Themed after a night at the races, spectators are actively engaged in the competition through the 50/50 Honey Pot Raffle. Each team in the competition will have a separate container, called a honey pot, used to collect raffle tickets. Spectators then purchase raffle tickets and decide which pot to place their tickets. The pots, and the tickets within them, will be eliminated as their corresponding teams are eliminated from competition. At the conclusion of the game, one 50/50 raffle ticket will be pulled from the honey pot of the winning team, and the owner of the ticket will win half of the money raised in the raffle.
Other festivities include the choice raffle, silent auction, trivia wheel game, and Plinko bourbon pull. Costumes are encouraged.
“As we celebrate the 10th anniversary of this event, I’m grateful for our community’s continued generosity in making it something people look forward to year after year. It’s truly a one-of-a-kind experience where teams put their knowledge to the test and spectators bring the energy and excitement,” said Ryan Aroney, president and CEO of United Way of Greater Lorain County.
In addition to American Legion Post 30, current event sponsors include Brightspeed, Sarringhaus & Scott, RW Beckett, Dawn Dailey CPA, Ross Builders, Lorain Public Library System, Community Foundation of Lorain County, Community West Foundation, and Maximum Velocity. Sponsorships are still available.
