VITA Volunteer Sign-Up

Learn to prepare taxes and make a difference in your community one family at a time!
The VITA program will train and certify you to provide free tax help for low-to-moderate income families in need of tax preparation assistance. Don’t know much about taxes? Don’t worry! We walk you through a comprehensive & straightforward training where the software does all of the heavy lifting.

If you can use a computer, YOU can help local families by preparing taxes. We encourage all volunteers to train in at least Basic tax preparation, however those who are not comfortable with tax preparation after the trainings can still volunteer as a Greeter or Interpreter.

Tax Preparer: Backbone of VITA

  • As a Tax Preparer, you make up the bulk of VITA volunteers, and have the opportunity to help taxpayers one-on-one. Tax Preparers will successfully certify in Basic or Advanced tax preparation and the use of our electronic filing software.

Greeter: Friendly face and intake specialist

  • As a Greeter, first and foremost you greet all taxpayers to create a welcoming atmosphere. Greeters also assist taxpayers in filling out a routine Intake Form—ensuring that the taxpayers have all the materials they need and their return fits the criteria for free tax preparation services.
