File Your Taxes From Home

You Can Still File Your Taxes for Free

Hi Tax Clients of the Lorain County Free Tax Prep Coalition,

This is Matt from the United Way of Greater Lorain County, the coordinator of the Lorain County VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) program. As I’m sure many of you know, due to issues surrounding COVID-19, we have had to close all of our tax sites for the foreseeable future—but we want to let you know of the ways you can still file for free from the comfort of your own home, even though we can’t host you at one of our tax sites at the moment.

Listed below are three free tax filing options associated with our program. Each has different restrictions, but if you are eligible for our services normally, then at least one will work for you!

If you made less than $36,000 last year, you can use the IRS Free File Program by TurboTax.

If you made between $14,000 and $69,000, you can use the IRS Free File Program by OnLine Taxes.

Use MyFreeTaxes for simple returns:

MyFreeTaxes has no income restrictions, but it is only available for simple returns. Read below what a simple return is, and if you qualify.

Need Help?

Filing your own taxes may be something new to you, or maybe just filing online is new, but don’t worry! Our IRS certified volunteer tax preparers will be answering questions as they come.

Send all questions to and a volunteer will respond to you within 24 hours. Please limit questions to those regarding your tax return itself, or to questions regarding the use of the software. We cannot provide financial advice, but we can answer tax-related questions.

Additionally, our friends at United Way Suncoast have created an online FAQs document to assist taxpayers using online filing software. This is a great reference tool for many commonly asked questions that arise with the above filing software.
