OberlinKids Offers Digital Option to Families Looking to Complete Developmental Screenings

As part of their On Track for Kindergarten program, OberlinKids offers annual screenings to any child between ages birth to 5-years-old that resides in the Oberlin City School District. The developmental, social and emotional, play-based screenings are now able to be completed online by the child's parent or guardian, or with the OberlinKids Coordinator at either the Oberlin Public Library or the OberlinKids office (23 Eric Nord Way, Suite 9 in Oberlin). 

UH Elyria Employees Go Bald for Bucks

Employees from University Hospitals Elyria Medical Center recently shaved their heads as a way to raise dollars - and awareness - for United Way of Greater Lorain County.

The event was started six years ago by UH Manager of Rehabilitation Services Tom LaMotte and has grown into an annual tradition that raises over $1,000 each year.

LaMotte was joined this year by Chief Operating Officer Jeff Reilly and Facilities Manager Chris Pebworth.

Volunteers Needed for the 2019 Tax Filing Season!

The Lorain County Free Tax Prep Coalition is looking for volunteers to prepare returns this 2019 Tax Filing Season! You can choose between basic and advanced trainings, which will be offered each Saturday in January. Trainings will also include timie for software practice. Volunteers can also self-train by using Link and Learn, and group training cab be provided right at your office if you have a group of colleagues interested in helping hardworking families file their taxes for free.

Volunteers Build Pantry At Oberlin Senior Center

Volunteers from the Natural Stone Institute rallied together to build a food pantry at the Neighborhood Alliance Senior Enrichment Services of Oberlin. The volunteer project was a part of this year's annual Week of Caring, where we partner with organizations across Lorain County to match corporate and community volunteers to needed volunteer opportunities. There was a need at the center for a pantry as many seniors who visited the center were having financial struggles and needed food to take home.

School to Source Healthier Lunch Options from Backyard Garden

As part of our 26th annual Week of Caring, partners from the Just Energy Foundation and volunteer groups from Brookside High School were able to come together to construct a sustainable cafeteria garden and outdoor learning space for the school to use as part of their new initiatives to include home-grown, fresh produce in healthier lunch options offered to students.

Trunk-Or-Treat Offers Fun & Free Resources to Families

Over 200 local families celebrated Halloween in style at the first annual Rising Titans 'Trunk-Or-Treat' event on Saturday, October 27th at El Centro de Servicios Sociales in Lorain. Kids dressed in their holiday best were able to trick-or-treat and collect candy by stopping at automotive stations representing a handful of local organizations, including United Way of Greater Lorian County, Lorain County Public Health and the Lorain Public Library System.
