Volunteers Build Pantry At Oberlin Senior Center

Volunteers from the Natural Stone Institute rallied together to build a food pantry at the Neighborhood Alliance Senior Enrichment Services of Oberlin. The volunteer project was a part of this year's annual Week of Caring, where we partner with organizations across Lorain County to match corporate and community volunteers to needed volunteer opportunities. There was a need at the center for a pantry as many seniors who visited the center were having financial struggles and needed food to take home.

School to Source Healthier Lunch Options from Backyard Garden

As part of our 26th annual Week of Caring, partners from the Just Energy Foundation and volunteer groups from Brookside High School were able to come together to construct a sustainable cafeteria garden and outdoor learning space for the school to use as part of their new initiatives to include home-grown, fresh produce in healthier lunch options offered to students.

Trunk-Or-Treat Offers Fun & Free Resources to Families

Over 200 local families celebrated Halloween in style at the first annual Rising Titans 'Trunk-Or-Treat' event on Saturday, October 27th at El Centro de Servicios Sociales in Lorain. Kids dressed in their holiday best were able to trick-or-treat and collect candy by stopping at automotive stations representing a handful of local organizations, including United Way of Greater Lorian County, Lorain County Public Health and the Lorain Public Library System.

Week of Caring Volunteers Provide 200+ Hours of Service

Our 26th annual Week of Caring brought together over 60 community and business members - including groups from Brookside High School, the Just Energy Foundation, Macy's Systems and Technology, the Natural Stone Institute, Neighborhood Alliance and PolyOne Corporation - for a September week full of volunteer opportunities in support of our collaborative work.

Volunteers Sort and Organize Over 10,000 Books for Ready Set Go

Ready Set Go received a ton of help labeling, sorting, and organizing over 10,000 donated books as part of a two-part volunteer project on Friday, July 27 and Saturday, July 28.  

The '10K Books Project' included helping hands from HandsOn Northeast Ohio volunteers and the Lorain County Community Action Agency's youth group - just over 20 volunteers in total.

THRIVE! and City Fresh Join Hands to Provide Access to Fresh Produce

THRIVE! Southern Lorain County is working with City Fresh to ensure area residents continue to have access to fresh fruit and vegetables while the Wellington Farmers' Market is closed this summer.

City Fresh, a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program founded in Cleveland 13 years ago, has added Wellington as a "fresh stop" along its healthy produce route.
